All are welcome here.

Including and especially you. This is a safe, nonjudgmental space where you can unpack and process even the hardest things. Here, we’re LGBTQIA+ affirming, body-positive, and sensitive to racial trauma, religious trauma, and diverse spiritual beliefs.

Here, we challenge ourselves to not label things as good and bad, best and worst, especially when it comes to ourselves. Even the “worst” parts of us have good reason for being and deserve compassion and understanding. They’re often born of trauma, grief, rejection and pain. Those parts of us need to be seen, heard, and understood — especially the parts we hope no one else sees. Often, that’s where the healing we’re so desperate for happens. This is why it’s worth the effort to swap self-judgement for curiosity. It’s rarely easy, but you don’t have to go it alone.

That’s where counseling comes in.

With compassion and curiosity we’ll get at the root of things, on your terms. You are the author and authority of your story / I’ll be your fellow traveler for a time. You bring your lived experience / I’ll bring my training in trauma-informed therapies. Together we can explore the how’s and why’s of your present state, so you can move toward a future of your creation and choosing.

There is no one set, best way to live or be. It’s all about exploring what it means to be authentically you. Being in this world is painful, and yet it’s possible to experience joy, embodiment, and wholeness here.

Meet Genevieve Postlethwait

Shadow & Light Healing owner, therapist and counselor Genevieve Postlethwait

Hi, and welcome!

I’m Genevieve Postlethwait, a Licensed Professional Counselor Associate (LPCA) based in Paducah, KY, and owner of Shadow & Light Healing.

I’m trained primarily in person-centered and existential counseling, and view therapy through this lens. Beyond formal schooling, I’ve studied holistic and trauma-focused modalities such as EMDR and somatic work, because that’s where my passion lives. Seeking healing from trauma and grief is what brought me to therapy as a client, and what inspired me to become a therapist myself.

I won’t be the right counselor for every person. Regardless of whether we’re a good fit as client and counselor, I support your autonomy to control the direction of your life — including your therapy — above all else.

I’m not glad for the circumstances that brought you here — if you’ve found your way to this site, you’ve likely been through it. I’m glad you’re here nonetheless.

Think we might be a good fit?
